Default Just bought Trilogy from Steam

I have a 100Mbs connection. It took about 45 minutes at 1.5MBs to download from Steam.

After launching the game it is now downloading again at about 25KBs. I assume it is now downloading updates but it doesn't say.

Does the Steam version not update through Steam?

Guild Wars is unique in that it streams content as it is needed for the campaigns you are accessing.

If you want to force it to download the whole game, you can run Gw.exe with the -image option.

I'm not accessing a campaign. All I have is a window that is downloading a thousand files really slowly. It looks like downloading the whole game is the default.

If you are in Europe, try running the following commands in an Administrator shell:

Code:
echo. && echo 206.127.146.41 File1.ArenaNetworks.com File2.ArenaNetworks.com File3.ArenaNetworks.com File4.ArenaNetworks.com File5.ArenaNetworks.com File6.ArenaNetworks.com File7.ArenaNetworks.com File8.ArenaNetworks.com File9.ArenaNetworks.com File10.ArenaNetworks.com  File11.ArenaNetworks.com File12.ArenaNetworks.com >> %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Code:
ipconfig /flushdns
Then try restarting Guild Wars and see if your download speed changed.

Sync00 - Steam only provides the base client. Game updates are managed through the game client, not through steam.

So whenever you run the game, it will check to see if there are any updates that are needed prior to running the game and d/l those first.. before letting you play the game. The client itself will then continue to stream download any non-critical data/updates while you play the game.

GW is NOT integrated with STEAM, it uses it's own installer and updater /which is the best one I've ever seen, BTW).

When you buy the game, you download a "basic" installer. That does include most files needed, however, it lacks the many many updates that have been added to the game with time. For starters, it'll need to download at least those that everyone needs to have downloaded to play (for example, since a player can wear any costume anywhere, it's important that you first download all the costumes before you can play).

So, the installer first installs an "old" version of the game, and then downloads all the updates to let you play.

You will also likely have to actually go and get the "product key" in STEAM to make the account, once you've installed it all.

The 25k connection speed, however, seems rather low.

In the end: bear with it. It'll soon be done, and then updates won't take very long.
